So Archive.org has me covered with fantastic films that are free to stream or download in digital formats. Here are a few that I am enjoying right now…. Pyongyang: The Hidden Camera Behind the Iron Curtain (2014) - Documentary. It's hard to believe that it's been fifty years since the end of the Korean War, but the memories of war and suffering live on in North Korea, which was sealed off from the world during those decades. In 1982, Swedish journalist Lars Nilsson went to Pyongyang with a hidden camera and shot exceptionally candid footage of everyday life in North Korea. This film shows how his footage was smuggled out of the country and how it reached international audiences. Jamon Jamon (1992) - A gangster-like film about a veteran hit man. He's hired to kill a sleazy lounge singer, but he tries to avoid the job, but when he can't get out of it, he reluctantly goes through with it. I Spy (1965) - The ninth film in which Robert Culp stars as an agent who moonlights as a tourist-detective in order to bring down the international spy ring that stole his nation's nuclear secrets. This time he is investigating the theft of the plans for the "Dietz Womble" Stealth Submarine after they were stolen while touring Europe. Platoon Leader (1988) - Story of a young officer of an Air Cavalry Scout Platoon, assigned to the Ia Drang Valley in 1966, who is faced with a difficult and dangerous situation that threatens the lives and the morale of his men. The Citadel (1938) - Sharp-edged drama about a young girl who leaves her protective family to join an acting troupe and encounters unbridled corruption and cruelty. A film noir style for its time, but more of a melodrama than true noir. Still it's classic filmmaking from director King Vidor. Sarafina! (1992) - A family's life is upended when their daughter returns to her family's ancestral home in rural Lesotho, and her harsh and troubled past comes back to haunt them. A Walk in the Park (1953) - A group of boys, having been neglected by their parents, form a "boy's club" but find that the streets of London are no place for children.
